Who We Are

Rho Pi Phi is a professional fraternity dedicated to friendship, professionalism, and community service. The Lambda Sigma Delta chapter was founded at the University of the Pacific in 1992. We are a co-ed fraternity that welcomes both men and women of good character who are dedicated to the profession of pharmacy. Despite being a young fraternity, we are fearless and are constantly finding innovative ways to incorporate our love for pharmacy in all that we do.

Every year, we hold pre-rush and rush events. This is a great way for prospectives to get a chance to meet the wonderful brothers who make up this fraternity. Please do not be shy to approach any of our members and ask questions about the fraternity

We actively give back to our community through help and service while creating pharmacy awareness. Some of our events include the annual international trip with Global Medical Brigade organization to aid underserved communities functioning as a mobile medical unit and setting up clinics for patients at no cost, DEA Drug Take Back Day to assist the community in appropriately disposing leftover and unused medicine, and the annual Living Hope Health Fair, where we collaborate with LifeSong Church and the Bread of Life Program offering free health screenings, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, asthma, bone mineral density, anemia and much more along with education on various health topics. We are constantly looking for ways to give people a hand up and the professional activities are endless.

The formation of Rho Pi Phi began with an incident that occurred during the month of November 1918 at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy. A bulletin appeared, which implied that students of various denominations of color need not apply for membership into existing fraternities. This caused a great deal of concern amongst the faculty and the non-fraternity students. With the approval of the Dean, sixteen men and women formed the Ram Bam Pharmaceutical Society.

The following year, Rho Pi Phi was organized and chartered. International status was gained with the formation of a Canadian group, Nu Chapter, at the University of Toronto in 1926. In 1922, the first national convention was held and the Constitution was adopted. Alumni chapters were later organized in order to enable members to continue active participation in Rho Pi Phi after graduation.

Oath of Maimonides

"Thy eternal providence has appointed me to watch over the life and health of Thy creatures. May the love for my art actuate me at all times; may neither avarice nor miserliness, nor thirst for glory, or for a great reputation engage my mind; for the enemies of truth and philanthropy could easily deceive me and make me forgetful of my lofty aim of doing good to Thy children. May I never see in the patient anything but a fellow creature in pain. Grant me strength, time, and opportunity always to correct what I have acquired, always to extend its domain; for knowledge is immense and the spirit of man can extend infinitely to enrich itself daily with new requirements. Today he can discover his errors of yesterday and tomorrow he may obtain a new light on what he thinks himself sure of today. O God, Thou has appointed me to watch over the life and depth of thy creatures; here I am ready for my vocation, and now I turn unto my calling."
